All of our services are open to the public, and children are always welcome!

Services are generally held in our beautiful sanctuary with the occasional outdoor service when weather permits. When you enter, greeters are there to welcome you and to give you a bulletin that provides information about upcoming events at SFS. Please introduce yourself to the greeter as a newcomer, and ask any questions that you may have.

Our greeter can seat you with other congregants, if you wish, or can introduce you at our Oneg Shabbat. We do encourage people to sit together and close to the front, but feel free to sit anywhere.

Tallitot (prayer shawls) and kippot (head coverings) are available to both men and women to wear during the service, but are not required.

Our services are very participatory. We invite guests to join in the prayers and sing along with us, as much as you are comfortable. Our Rabbi will guide you as we move through the service. Our prayer book has the readings in English, Hebrew, and transliterated Hebrew, so most people can follow along easily, even those unfamiliar with Hebrew.

Our Cantor leads us in song, and even if you “don’t sing,” you will find our service music contagious. We hope you will at least hum along as you experience the uplifting and beautiful voice of our Cantor!

Each Saturday morning, Rabbi Barzilai leads us in study of the week’s Torah portion. In addition to exploring the portion, he shares readings and ideas from Rabbis and scholars. Many of us are beginners, and no prior knowledge is required. All you need is a desire to listen, to think, and to learn. When you are comfortable, we encourage you to jump into the conversation and share your ideas.

Once a month, we hold a special musical Shabbat – often featuring a full band and congregant singer/songwriters – in which we celebrate Shabbat with song, prayer, and learning.

Our Shabbat B’Yachad (“Shabbat Together”) service creates a family-friendly setting for all ages, often with performances from our youngest members!

At our Holy Sparks Shabbat services, congregants or guests share their personal and professional experiences, often highlighting their commitment to Tikkun Olam. These services are designed to expand our horizons, share ideas and spark discussion.

Our monthly Community Dinners, usually preceding Friday night services, welcome all and are a great chance for us to gather and share a meal free of charge. These are often co-sponsored by congregants and the Rabbi Max Maccoby Foundation to celebrate a simcha, observe a Yahrzeit, or express appreciation for our SFS community. During the warm months we gather for barbecues at our Gan Shalom (Garden of Peace) and celebrate Shabbat Under the Stars.
